The significance of winning in life

‘Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing’ — Henry Russell (Red) Sanders

When we were young, all we heard was, ‘It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s about how you play the game. It is the level of participation that is important. However, is this correct? Is it applicable to all situations in life? I don’t think so. With this concept, are we not implying that losing is acceptable? As a result, youth are encouraged to confront the perceptions of being losers and also-rans. The old saying should be paraphrased in situations such as sports, politics, and even war – ‘It matters when you win, not how you win’.
